2024 My year of free 🩸
12.28.24
This of course is not for everyone. If you are squeamish please leave now…lol.
My experience. You may remember that one time in 2023 I first tried free bleeding and said it wasn’t for me. Well, I have changed my mind. I’m not someone that goes anywhere if possible during my period. Currently it is very punctual, short and regular for the most part and I’m easily able to work with it.
Early this year I had heard about all these tampon chemicals in the news this is a reoccurring type of thing. I am so sick of using them as well. Menstrual cups never worked for me, and pads were not my favorite either, messy. I just figured to give the free bleeding another chance. I watched a few videos to hear experiences and pointers. Then decided to try it again.
Month after month it got less gross and less messy actually. I think my lady bits actually really really appreciated it. It doesn’t smell, I have zero cramps, no clots, it is quite shocking how much better it is. The only thing I use for pain which isn’t really an issue is my heated blanket or pad. At first I wasn’t sure how to go about it, so I started on a daily towel. This was okay but not ideal, lots of laundry, and blood likes to go through a towel in a straight line so you will drip drip on the floor or your furniture. Don’t do this, it doesn’t have to be messy. Now I sit on one towel per cycle for overflow only, which doesn’t happen anymore, and on top of that I sit on a small washable black pee pad (I designated solely for this). The blood absorbs quickly and it never feels wet to the touch. When I get up to pee I blot with paper towel it doesn’t drip or flow as you do this. Then just comeback sit down and that’s it. Overnight flow is non existent pretty much but you can lay down something or wear period panties.
In the beginning I did experiment a lot, I tried sitting on disposable pee pads, just because I had some around. It didn’t work well. I don’t recommend that route. Then I tried just lining up my body over a pad on the towel, it just didn’t do well and felt wet, it was slightly irritating to the skin. I do sit bottomless for this, you could easily just wear a skirt. I'm covered up with a sheet anyways with my feet up most of time. I understand not everyone will be able to do this. I wouldn’t publicly free bleed, that’s not for me, but in privacy, hell yes. Easy period. Short and pain free, saves money, less pollution, no pain pills. Takes away stigma and shame of menstruation in the ancestral line through your sacral chakra and heals the womb.
I don’t know how many more years this is going to happen for me but I don’t think I’ll be going back to old ways, except when necessary. I still have tampons on standby. I feel so clean doing it this way, probably due to lack of chemicals irritating the body, I don’t know how to explain it. Since I do terrible at ridding my body of toxins, I’m sure this helps me immensely.
So yes I do this, I recommend this if you have the means to stay home for it. You will feel so much better. Just get yourself ideally two small chair sized pee pads in a dark color. That way you can always have a clean one ready for the next day. Also an old towel you don’t care about for that first layer backup protection. If you live with others you’ll want a skirt, lol! Or a robe for bathroom trips.
I just wanted to share this because it is a new ritual I’ve been doing every month this year, and it has been a very positive experience for me. It’s like a three day feminine pause and honor.
Ovulation week is much more intense however…that I notice, the fluids, the cervical jabs, emotional ups and downs, the obsessive sexual thoughts. It’s kind of a pain but it’s also kinda fun because you do feel sexy AF. Just have fun with it, because it won‘t last forever.
I think that about sums it up. Thanks for reading.
